With more than 50.000 students, FOM is Germany’s biggest private institute of higher education. Research and development are of major importance at FOM and an important pillar of the guiding principle of the university. The country´s highest science policy advisory body to the Federal Government and state governments is convinced of the quality of the university´s overall concept and it confirmed this assessment in July 2016 with a reaccreditation. At the beginning of 2012, FOM was also the first private university in Germany to be accredited as an institution by the Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation. This seal of approval proves that FOM’s quality management satisfies the highest international standards.

 

Offering mostly non-traditional adult students the chance to gain a scientific degree, mainly in the field of economics, engineering and economic psychology, without having to give up work or restrict other personal activity has been the objective of FOM University of Applied Sciences since its foundation in 1993. It offers academic qualifications with Bachelor and Master degrees combined with special study-time models and digital educational services that allow a profession while studying. Teachings are held exclusively in presence of teachers and students at one of 29 university centers in Germany. This justifies that research and development in the fields of academic education and specific organizational and didactic solutions for working students always have been a main topic for FOM. Research activities take place especially at institutes, competence centres and research groups.
